Frustrating Loss After Blistering Start

A match for the neutrals, but one that leaves Hibs kicking themselves after storming into a 2-0 lead in the first half. Hibs came out with a strong game plan for the match and subsequently dominated proceedings in the opening 45, with SFC having very little in the way of chances. The defensive line was well-marshalled by Jack and Wilf, with Pat and Joey containing SFC's dangerous wingers. Hibs took the lead after Pedro, who was a thorn in SFC's side all match, floated a delightful cross into the box for Bolts to head home. Bolts almost made it 2-0 after a well-worked corner routine, but somehow headed over from 6 yards out. Nonetheless, Hibs got a deserved second when Joey curled an absolute peach of a ball from deep into the far post area. Liam had drifted into the box and rose highest to score a sumptuous header, directing the ball back from whence it came and into the corner at the stroke of half time. Hibs were absolutely flying, but knew the job wasn't complete. The second half, however, was a different story. SFC came out of the blocks hot and Hibs gifted them a penalty right after half time. Shotton dispatched it with a thumping finish, and the momentum shifted dramatically, with SFC sensing blood and Hibs not controlling the game as they'd done so well in the first half. One standout moment was Pat's incredible recovery challenge on Shotton when SFC looked certain to score, a thing of absolute beauty. However, a second goal from SFC quickly followed, and then what ensued was akin to a basketball match, with end-to-end chances and any form of structured play mostly disappeared. SFC took the lead to turn the game around 3-2, but Hibs received a penalty when Sam won the ball back high and tried to go around the keeper. It was Bolts' turn to smash home a pen and the game was level at 3-3. Both teams had opportunities to win it and a draw would have been the fairest result, but in the end SFC took their opportunity after a great save from Billy lead to the ball falling kindly to Shotton in the box, who scored the match-winner with around ten minutes to play. Congratulations to SFC and good luck for the rest of the season.
