The Gaffer was back!

There is a long list of great managers who have served a touchline ban. Ferguson, Mourinho and Wenger to name a few. What makes them special is the impact they have on their return. After SCC's iconic manager Anthony Houlahan returned from his touchline ban we were looking forward to the same kind of impact.......it didn't happen. The first half was about as poor as SCC have played this season. Maybe some of the players were distracted (Antho trying to claim a goal from game week 4, Daisy too excited for the planned drinks after the game). Whatever it was the tempo was slow, passing was poor and general commitment levels were low. Other than that it was good and we scored 3 goals with some pieces of magic, namely the chip from Enrique that had Daisy even more excited than the night out plans. First half goals were qualities finishes by Enrique, Jahan and Shotton (of course). Needless to say the half-time team talk did not include terms like "same again lads" or "keep it going". After some stern words by Houlahan, SCC improved in the 2nd half dominating the game, playing the possession football we expect and creating some wonderful opportunities and could have scored more if the Benjamin Button of goalkeepers, Scott Star, hadn't pulled off a few wonderful saves. Speaking of wonderful saves, Ronnie pulled off one of the saves of the seasons to deny Dan (I think). No matter who was denied I am sure they were already off celebrating before Ronnie used his new lighter frame to dive across the full length of the goal to tip the ball away. Clinical finishes in the 2nd half came from Duric, Hulen and Shotton (again). With no Cosmoleague game next week a strong squad has been sent to represent the SCC, Cosmoleague and Singapore at the RBSC Soccer 7’s in Bangkok. We will do our best on and off the pitch.

Slut Drop Humiliation

Not only was this a comprehensive thumping by the league’s top team, Dan also had the indignation of having his son witness it at his first ever game and then have the toddler slut-dropping in the SCC bar in front of the opposition! SCC had too much for Hibs and snapped our mini-streak with some clinical finishing. They were 3-0 up at the break despite our untried center-backs doing well and everyone looking solid. We had a great chance on the break to score, but the simple last pass for a tap in was over hit. Such chances can’t be passed up against SCC and nor can chances be presented as we did for the third just before half-time. SCC went on to dominate possession in the second half and Shotton scored another one-on-one and the score started to get heavy. Talbot came on to finish a lovely move and have a go at Andrew for passing to him. Dan forced a tremendous save in a last desperate attempt to impress Alfie, but his blank saw an end to his impressive 11-game scoring run and probably the worst first football memory he could wish for for his son. MOM goes to Shazri for his tireless defending.
