Report

Went through to the Wembley

After the tough win by a neck last weekend, delighted news for Rangers this week was to get back full 15 squad turned up including Canadian Great Wall Rowan Anders. The game started with back and forth battle. Rangers tried to keep it high tempo and aimed an opening goal in early time however Casuals targeted same on their favorable pitch, lucky to us today their lack of quality on final third never made it happened. Also well deserved to mention about clean sheet made by relatively new defense line over their consistent threat feeding their striker to run up along with sideline. The opening goal was made by Young shifted-striker Fraser after Paddy flicked 40 yds lob of set piece from Umar. Soon 5-10 mins after the first, Paddy's right foot generated an addition from the counter-attack and dribbling into 18 yds box. Later in first half, Ship Captain Nate showcased a killer pass delivering to Jordan who were running into the big space in the middle and added another on to put ourselves in comfortable situation at half time as 3-0. Second half started with several changes as we had strong sub Beatts, Lee and Esad came on and injected energy onto the vehicle to keep running until the end. That resulted 4th goal by Paddy after took Casuals's goalie on and 5th goal as OG Jacko generated by his 60 yds running along sideline and delivery to the middle. Thanks to Casuals for fair play and great pitch provided for the important cup semi. MoM for Casuals goes to Andy #23 and Ranger to Umar who kept a strong defense to contribute an important clean-sheet result. Although the season end is around the corner, Rangers needs to gear up one more time to aim 2nd position in the league and the title in cup competition.

I’m a Casuals player get me outta here…

Cup semi-final for I think the 3rd or 4th year in a row, the customary Singapore Colonials vs Casuals final awaited us if we could put together a performance. Things didn’t start too well with a mid-week scramble for players, a club of 50+ should really be able to field quality teams each week however it’s not the case and especially when form isn’t great. Our German part time gaffer was away lifting a box of books or something similarly boring, the 3 recruits from up north with nursing injuries known as “laziness”, Scurr is old so went to the wrong venue but it was Harrys 18th bday and apparently he managed a smile but it could be a vicious rumour. Ant and Dec took the team for the day and asked the gathered herd of z list players to work as a team and have some fun in the jungle, do not fear the oppo, tackle all challenges with bravery and gusto and in the words of Dom Satny “strive for excellence”. Game started ok, we had a bit of the ball but nothing majorly exciting. The oppo were content to look for the balls over the top which in fairness was probably the right thing to do given the heat and their quality on the ball but the feeling was that it was going to be a long day when of the most vertically challenged lads on the pitch was winning more headers than anyone of the team taller than 5ft 2”. Fortunately I can’t really remember all the goals but one was from a free kick that found its way to the back post where 2 rangers lads stood laughing while their markers were looking at the cloud formations and another was a weak back pass header and the striker sliced his cross and caught the happy GK at his near post. We had one free kick that just evaded the post but not a lot more. Change in formation mid-way through seemed to work and a couple of half chances created and some offside decision that were more than questionable alas we hadn’t really tested the GK. Half time chat was about cancelling the show, evacuating the z list players and rather than go to a fancy hotel in Brisbane (if there is such thing in that ‘orrble country) we would head to a Buddhist monastery to sit and think about life. For a good 20mins we did better, little more commitment but then we just ran out of steam, quality and desire. 5-0 to Rangers, another workmanlike performance from them, no real outstanding quality but hardworking and play well as team, congrats! Casuals season ends this week with the rematch against the Vikings whom im told are coming to the game with 5 electricians, rule book master from UEFA, FIFA, S-League and of course the Cosmo
