SCC V Nippon

The debate rumbles on regarding whether we should continue our away games at Turf city or return to a newly improved Dempsey. The signs from Saturdays performance suggest that a bigger pitch and a playing surface that doesn’t resemble Ghandi’s flip flop favors this SCC side after a comfortable home win. Last week’s gutless performance was etched in the minds of the SCC players, who were adamant that the same mistakes wouldn’t creep into this performance. SCC started with the tenacity, aggression and intensity that is required, which effectively meant the game was done and dusted within 20 minutes. The Japanese game plan was to press high up the pitch, attempting to disposes our players in positive areas. SCC’s ability to move the ball through midfield and into high wide areas quickly, ultimately killed Nippon’s admirable spirit. The first goal came from a big switch of play to the on running Danny, who delivered a pinpoint cross and expertly finished by Liam. Danny, who was starting his first game for SCC was a constant menace down the right hand side, providing great width and delivery throughout the 90 minutes. The Second goal came from some scrappy defending that was once again pounced upon by Liam who drove home in emphatic style. 2-0 at HT After continuing to control the game, SCC added a 3rd, with some lovely movement in the middle of the park, the ball was slid into Hutch to finish with aplomb. An outstandingly well worked goal, that was fit for any stage. The story of our season has definitely been our strength in depth and Saturdays performance was no different. After 60 minutes we were able to bring on Duric, Mike (who was once described as a fat, balding elderly lad) and Junior Kike. Junior, whether starting or coming off the bench consistently makes life very difficult for his opponents and Saturday was no different. His direct style resulted in a great run and finish. Further goals from Danny (another run from right back) Duric (classy chip) and fat balding elderly lad (header) completed the scoring in an 7 -0 convincing win. MOM – Danny – Great performance at right wing back. Full of energy and delivered fantastic end product. TOTD – Sam Balls – for showing great willingness to shoot regardless of the 6 previously failed attempts. Thanks to Nippon for a great game
