4th victory in a row over our Swiss neighbours

It was Saturday afternoon & the haze levels permitted GAS to start our Cosmo league campaign. Our opponents were the Swiss. It was expected that the match be a fierce competition! We started off as usual with intensive pressing but could have contained our opponents (in their own half) much better. Neither team was able to control the game with any type of defense &/or ball possession. ‘Twas end to end & scrappy (lots of misjudged tackles by both teams). The referee tried to impose his rules… by the halftime whistle two very important GAS players were out injured (shit happens, don’t rush it but get well soon). The Swiss must have made a sacrifice to the God of War before the match (Valhalla/Elysium...!) … in the second half proper ball possession still eluded us. With both teams tiring, gaps in the middle of the field were definitely opening up. Our defense had no midfielders protecting them at times. During some of those times tackles were miscalculated & the Swiss produced some beautiful individual work. Nevertheless we kept searching for a goal. In the dying moments (was towards the end) of the second half our Ninja Assassin got his target & struck the inside of our opponents net (with the match ball & during regulation time)… GOAL GOAL GOAL GOAL GOAL GOOOAAALLL! QUE GOLAZO! Twasn’t the last attack but our defense & keeper were solid enough. When the final whistle blew… 1… nil… to GAS/us! MOM: Mizu AKA Ninja Assassin. Hopefully next time we meet the quality of the match & risk calculation will be better… Until then may the Gods be with you. Peace.

Undeserved defeat

After the 0-9 defeat previous game, Swiss came into the game realising that a win was vital beyond just the 3 points in this derby game against the Germans. GAS has now got the better of us for the past 3 league meetings. Surely the rot had to stop..... The task was made even tougher with all goal threats/ forwards out on the sidelines (Urs, Roman, Regis). New coach Kamsadi was on the sidelines for the first time part of project to build a new 'core'/ team. The game plan was to be compact, help one another and keep the possession with simple short balls - i.e back to basics. It worked quite well and throughout the first half we were quite solid, limiting GAS to a handful of half opportunities. We had 2 shots on target both from Dimi, one hitting the crossbar. GAS continued to edge in the possession stat in the 2nd half, but the Swiss, led upfront from Adam and Dimi, created some decent opportunities that perhaps would have crept in on another day. It was looking like the game was going to end 0-0 however a moment of sloppy play gave GAS the lead 5 mins before the end. Don't think we deserved to lose but looking ahead, there are definitely positive things to take back. Long season ahead for the Swiss, but as with all new projects, time is of the essence. A nice huddle at the end; let's do this together ! As always, it was a tough battle with the Neighbours. A tackle caused an awkward landing; hopefully Quirin's injury is not to serious. Gute Besserung Junge ! This game also marked the last game for 'Madse' who is leaving Singapore. It was always a pleasure on and off the pitch, you will certainly be missed. The league is losing a character for sure. Safe travels and see you soon !
