Hard Fought Victory

Any manager worth his salt realizes that you just train specific to what you may face in a game situation. To the horror of most of the SCC players at training on Tuesday night there was no ball in sight, not even a cone but only a massive 200m hill which we ran up for 2 hours. This prehistoric method of coaching seemed to work however with another win to SCC. SCC went into this game against Aioli understanding how difficult the game was going to be after two very tough league encounters the previous year. However with a strong squad to pick from again, we were confident on taking the 3 points. The game started with both teams being very organized and keeping good possession of the ball. A couple of chances from SCC in the first half with Tyler hitting the post after good work down the left, and Mikey hitting the bar with a shot/cross. 0-0 at half time and everything to play for. The second half started opening up a little further but both teams still be very compact. The opening goal came as Hutcheon managed to make the keeper work who could only parry out to the onrushing Duric to make no mistake for his first goal for SCC. With 386 professional football goals, and 24 International goals I am sure this goal against Aioli means the most to him. SCC continued to make more goal scoring opportunities with Duric testing the keeper on a couple of occasions, and Hulen shaving the top of the bar with a great volley. Aioli also had a few half chances in the second half and with a bit of luck could have added to the score sheet. 2-0 to SCC the final score line was probably just about deserved against a good Aioli team. We wish Martin a speedy recover after a horrible looking hand injury which we may see him out of action for a considerable time. Mom for SCC was Anthony for making a big impact on our team during a tough game. Mom for Aioli was the keeper with a string of good saves.

All the best Martin

The new look Aioli FC entered Dempsey Saturday evening against a well-organized, disciplined and fit SCC squad, looking to make amends for losing hold of last year’s championship. Aioli, however, with their strong and balanced backline and dynamic midfield play, looked to bring their best. Once the first-half whistle sounded, both teams looked organized with SCC controlling possession but Aioli keeping a high line and pressuring the ball throughout the park. SCC had their chances by continuously switching play with well delivered diagonal balls and testing the Aioli’s back four. Aioli’s centre backs were balanced and controlled throughout the half with the goalkeeper controlling his area. After striking the post, and later grazing the bar on a dangerous cross, Aioli began to counter and created two decent chances against the run of play. If not for a tip over the bar from SCC’s goalkeeper, Aioli would have finished the half 1-0 to the good. The second half started much like the first finished: SCC maintaining possession with dangerous counter attack options from Aioli. The boys from the Mediterranean, with a dab of Brit, should have taken the lead after missing a 1-on-1. As the second progressed, SCC began to create more chances with Aioli’s goalkeeper making a string of important saves. The deadlock was finally broken with 10 minutes left as SCC’s striker broke behind the Aioli back four to receive a quality ball from midfield. After a 1-on-1 save from the goalkeeper, the ball slotted home by on-rushing SCC player. Aioli will be kicking themselves after the SCC goalkeeper made a quality 1-on-1 save to prevent Aioli from leveling. With 5 minutes to play, SCC secured the 3 points with thunder strike from just outside the penalty area. MoM for SCC will go to Anthony G in the center midfield for a quality display of his talent during the game. Aioli PM MoM will go definitely to Kelly for an amazing performance. He managed to give a hard time to the SCC strikers! Thank you SCC for a fair game of Football. We hope a fast recovery to Martin Lavoo who played a couple of games last year with us. All the best mate. Cya soon on the pitch!
