10 men Hibs strong, but not enough

The Vikings ended up being too strong for us in this game, but there were positives to take from a second half in which we showed plenty of character. Vikings dominated possession through most of the first half. They’ve added a couple of big lads in midfield that, along with Domino, were pretty hard to get the ball off. We mostly kept things tight, which is still the big difference in this team from last season, but one lapse of concentration allowed the Vikings in with a long ball hit straight over the middle of our defence. Scott couldn’t get out to cut off Tommy in time and that was 1-0 down. At half time Hammo had to be substituted, having failed to run off his fractured leg. Our job got even harder when Talbot was sent off for challenging their keeper. The ball looked to me like it was hanging there to be won, and he got his head on it at the same time as the keeper arrived with his gloves. There was a big collision though. The ref saw it as a second yellow and we had to play the second half with 10 men. We played better after that, and it wasn’t a huge surprise when we got the equaliser, Nick scrambling home after a bit of a penalty area pinball. The Vikings made their advantage tell over the final 15 minutes though, and got the winner with an excellent back post volley from a corner. It was disappointing not to get anything out of the game, but we’re competing well in all our games and the points should come eventually. Thanks to Vikings for a game played in good spirit and with decent quality, at least as far as the players were concerned. Mom for Vikings goes to the new midfielder Alexander From who was strong and made a big difference for the Vikings MOM for Hibs goes to Nick for his tireless work in the middle, drove the come back and scored a vital goal
