SWELL PERIOD

Another match under the Friday Night Lights and this time we were up against Hibs. Hibs have made a solid start to the season and would be a big test for us. Tinks and Duplo had selfishly decided to go on holiday but we still had a great squad in place. We welcomed back Boggy and Yuto, and were feeling in a confident mood. 1TM had another strong start to an FNL match that was rewarded with a goal inside 2 minutes again. Some nice interchange between Boggy and Pig Snake saw the latter get to the bi-line and drill the ball across the goal towards Sharples at the back post. In an effort to clear, the full back slid in to intercept the ball but ended up poking it into his own goal. 1-0 Hibs responded well and took advantage of the officials’ generosity with some big challenges to try and win back momentum. It was a great contest particularly in the middle of the park and 1TM were unlucky not to extend the lead through a disallowed header from Pig Snake. Sharples also went close with an effort that went just wide of the far post. Hibs had one notable chance when their winger was slipped through but POB was out well to thwart the boys in green. HT 1-0 1TM started the second half with a good intensity and matched the physicality of the Hibs lads. Pig Snake, who was relentless in our attack, drove at their defence on 52 minutes and only a last ditch tackle stopped the greedy Pig going through on goal. The ball broke to Sharples, who passed the ball around the advancing ‘keeper and into the net. 2-0 1TM added a third 2 minutes later after riding another response from Hibs. Sharples gathered the ball on the edge of the box and his strike rebounded off the ‘keeper and Boggy had a simple finish. 3-0 Our fourth came when a cleared header from our corner looped up to Dev’s crush, Ruby, who met the ball on the volley and it squeezed into the corner of the goal. 4-0 Hibs had limited chances but did manage to score from a corner when it was headed back to an unmarked player 12 yards out and his shot went through a crowd of 1TM players and in. FT 4-1 Thanks to the Hibs players for a full blooded contest as always; the officials for managing the game and Grandad Sharples for supporting. First Defeat

It was a resounding win for 1TM under the light but they had more than a helping hand to score their four goals. We had our strongest squad of the season so we felt it this was the night to go toe-to-toe with the champions. It was a poor start and we were quickly on the back foot and with only a couple of minutes passed; Jaison unfortunately turned a cross into his own net and it was one way traffic in truth in the opening twenty minutes. That said, Vish didn’t really have any difficult saves to make despite the 1TM pressure and the last 15 minutes of the half saw much more positive play. Sergio was proving a real threat and he very nearly beat the ‘keeper. Shots went in from range from Julio but 1-0 at the half. A couple of changes and Hibs started well. The tempo was steadied by Will and it was even until Dan lost the ball cheaply, worked hard to win it back and the loose ball very fortunately fell to Sharples who scored 1TM’s important second. Hibs kept pushing and enjoyed more of the ball. Dan beat the keeper but not the covering defender who cleared. Will hit the bar and there were positive signs. 1TM got their third when Vish spilled a decent shot and the forward reacted quickest to score in the empty net. Hibs huffed and puffed but ultimately conceded a fourth when a clearance was drilled goalwards by Jamie which deflected past Vish and that was that for the win. Sergio got a goal at the back post from a Will corner but it was a tough night for the Hibs who were beaten by the better team on the night. MoM to Jaime Roberts and for Hibs it was Joey who created chances and defended well one-on-one all game.
